It'll be interesting what Debian will do as they install all to /usr/bin 
and /usr/lib. 

I don't think that anyone will install KMail from kde3 and kde4 at the 
same time. This also isn't possible with eg kde2 and kde3 (at least 
with packages from your distributor). We only have to take care that 
the enviroments of the different versions don't clash.
