Well, for KDE4, it is probably less a problem.

However it was more of a problem near the end of the development of KDE 3.5 
and therefore a few mimetypes were refused/postponed.

I just wanted to point out to look at the bug report before commit the new 
mimetype, to avoid to have on one side something written in the bug report 
and on the other the practice being done differently. (For example, it could 
have been that the icon has been drawn since then.)
