You are missing the point here. Look at kdelibs today and you'll see that 
the files with tabs suddenly have sections with spaces that look ok in 4 
space-tabs and other sections with spaces that look ok at 8-spaces tabs.

They tend to have differences on other areas as well.

With so many internal inconsistencies, you can not conclude that people 
didn't respect the style, its much more likely the new contributer simply 
failed to figure out the style of that particular file.
