At somepoint it was talked about threading it, to achieve non-blocking. It 
would hence bring the same advantage as a separate process(AFAICT), while 
being lighter.

Perhaps it is a moot point, and that identified problems do not exist. Also, 
not that adding threading could be free of complications.
