Qt->glib main event loop patch (common main loop)

By "toolkits", I assume you mean GTK+. For something of this scope, 
shouldn't there be some sort of standard rather than tightly coupling 
everything to Glib? Other than the fact that Glib uses select(), is 
there any particular reason we're adopting it?
