Subversion Prolem b/c moved files

Hrm... what's the reason the whole kdelibs etc. had to be moved instead of 
placing it there initially? To me it now seems one cannot quickly and easily 
update some files in e.g. /trunk/KDE/kdelibs to an earlier version because of 
this move. One way to update is using svn diff -ryadda file.cpp | patch -R, 
however, this actually changes the file and makes svn think we have a new 
revision. The whole concept of preserving history seems a bit broken to me 
now, what am I missing?
