pot generation

I'm investigating .pot file generation to get KDE into Ubuntu's
Rosetta web translation interface (allowing custom strings in Kubuntu
and the possibility of KDE i18n teams using a web interface if they
wish).

I need to know if the 0.14.4 version of gettext that comes with Ubuntu
will work with KDE and if not what are the specific cases that it
doesn't work for.
