There was a recent lengthy thread on -core-devel, "Much needed KDE
application", exactly about receiving general system notifications. That
thread settled down to "there is an application already that can be extended
to meet those needs." I'm CC'ing Dik (who started the MNKA thread) and Chris
(from DUNS) so that they know of each other's existence.
