Yeah, my bad, I just came to observe what a mess the tags and branches in ARTS 
seem to be. I got misled by my believing that checking out the 1_1_RELEASE 
will give me the updates in the 1.1 branch. I now go with 1_1_BRANCH (that, 
indeed, has the assert removed in its latest form).

Sorry for noising the list with my awkwardness. Let's hope it will at least 
spare time for some other pour soul.
