The other part of me says that smaller binaries are a Good Thing to have 
in a release.

But both parts say that they really don't think it matters, except that 
exceptions on by default allow developers to use them if they're more 
comfortable.  We don't lose anything unless they do, except for a bit of 
disk space.

I guess it's like this:  Do you care whether the binaries take up more 
disk space of not?  If so, then don't do it.  If not, then by all means, 
do it.  I like exceptions. :)
