and that's why reusing some media framework already existing + maintained 
would make most sense in my eyes, for example if gnome jumps on the gstreamer 
train and it works out, why not using it (beside there are technicals 
problems with it, beside that I guess it is no nice work to rewrite all 
kdemultimedia apps to reuse it).
the media framework is than responsible if we just write to /dev/dsp, arts, 
jack, ... or /dev/null
