In the end you want that kde provides it's own solution for decoding/encoding 
sound / mixing / video-audio-sync / ... 
why sounds that better than using some already build up media framework like 
gstreamer/mas/... ?
My main problem with kde & multimedia is that arts blocks my dsp device and is 
only used by kde in the end (k, gstreamer can use it too, know, ....), me 
would like some common framework for gnome/kde much better, be it gstreamer 
or whatever fits ....
