Hi,
I really didn't know where to send this because I realize that not all
denizens of this list frequent the IRC channel (#kde-devel). But, realizing
that a lot of people on this list do, I shall post this here. Forgive me if
it is offtopic, I'll consider this to be an announcement and not belabor the
point.
As you know, I've been providing a bot for the channel for quite a while -
quite to the consternation of some, and to the enjoyment of others. That
ends today. It was, to be blunt, making me a lightning rod for criticism, as
there were as many opinions as to how it should behave as there were people
on the channel. I'm sick of it. There's a place for that kind of trouble in
the life of an open source programmer, and frankly an IRC channel is simply
not worth it.
However, my intention is not to simply "take my toys and go home", as it were.
I've made aptng available for download for anyone who wishes to run it. A
version is also available with the kde-devel databases intact, including all
of the "calc" rules, etc. Just please change the nick - I still have aptng
registered. I may yet use it elsewhere on freenode. And be also aware that
running it may, depending on your attitude, channel policy, etc., get you
banned from any channel you choose to run it on - INCLUDING #kde-devel.
You've been warned.
You may find it on http://www.duskglow.com/personal/software.shtml - along
with other software of varying lameness. There's no documentation, but find
me on irc (I'm specsmu) if you need help, and I'll write some up eventually.
If you're not interested in all at this, sorry. As I said, I won't belabor
the point. It's not up for argument.
