Hmm your patch didn't solve it for me.  It still chooses the system lib over 
my env var $QTDIR one.

Why not simply have whatever it compiles when checking for
"if Qt compiles without flags" the test compile has a 
$required_qt_ver_new_feature (QSplashScreen in 3.2's case) object to see if 
it links correctly?  After mucking around with the configure system I am 
still not sure how to do this.  Can someone point me in the right direction?
