For what it is worth, the first time my girlfriend used KDE was on my machine 
to access the web. She picked up the keyboard (its wireless), hit Ctrl+0 and 
entered the address she wanted. If Konqi had shown a file window, that would 
have thrown her.
Now she didn't pick that up from me. I've never used that function. But she is 
really proficient with a keyboard, and the other browsers she's used support 

So I think you should keep it.
