Just to correct it: you should recompile kdewidgets with QT 3.1.2. ;-)

Altough the symptoms are suggesting that this is the problem, shouldn't
configure fail at the "checking if UIC has KDE plugins available..." phase
if it doesn't find the KDE plugins?
Anyway, a kdewidgets recompilation may help, but in that case I wonder for
what is the plugin checking good.
