Yes, -pedantic-errors can be found in the configure script, I wonder why.

Dirk, the problem is that -pedantic with gcc 3.3.x turns what used to be
warnings into errors, causing stuff to not compile.
The *easiest* fix would be to not hardcode -pedantic anywhere.
