Use mutt; that can do what you want.

Anyway; you might want to see the diffs, but I don't.
There is no way to satisfy all, so I hope you will try to get your own system 
up to the way you want without trying to change the source.
I'm perfecty fine with pressing the 'v' every now and then to see the headers. 
I also don't really want to see diffs of every commit.
