OK. I've committed the changes to kcontrol/fonts and kcontrol/kfontinst. 

I was also thinking that it might be useful to have a simple exe that converts 
from the old .xftconfig to .fonts.conf - this could be run in startkde if 
~/.xftconfig exists, but ~/.fonts.conf does not. Maybe this would ease the 
transition?
