I think that has been changed because you can have either no or several K 
buttons now. Popping it up at the mouse pointer position violates the 
predictability principle. Because you can't always see the mouse pointer, you 
wouldn't know where the menu would popup. 

I chose the center of the screen because the minicli is also popups there. And 
WindowMaker does the same.
