For whatever it's worth, I have been looking for somewhere to get that kind of 
information lately (for Kate), though I have not yet used it. I would like to 
offer easy insertion of the users fullname, email and "qualified email", like 
"My Name <me at myemail.org>" into text files. 

So I was looking to use it prior to hearing that it was considered to phase it 
out... If I can find a kosher way to retrieve such information from kmail or 
kmail config, fine. But KDE deos not require users to use kmail, so that is 
not a sure way?

Well, the addressbook panel configures libkabc, not the kaddressbook 
application, and libkabc is used by several apps, kmail and korganizer 
amongst others.

That one has to do with the Desktop, right?
