Well, at least in KMail we have the problem that we have wishlist items 
for hundreds of new features which would require additional config 
options. So it's not necessarily the developers who want to make 
everything configurable but often enough it's the users who want to be 
able to configure everything. In this case it's us, the developers, who 
need to say "No, we won't make this configurable!". But then the users 
start to whine...
