The signature delimiter is just a convention. It's part of the text/plain body 
and not outside of it. 
As such, it's subject to qp encoding. Before I made the change to encode all 
DASHs at beginnings of lines, the signature delimiter was already encoded 
thus:
- --=20
since qp encoding mandates that trailing whitespace be encoded to protect it 
from MTAs that add or remove trailing WSP.

There is _nothing_ to fix in KMail in this respect. Believe me or read the 
RFCs ;-)
