You can't track me by my IP address because it's always different after every 
boot (assuming the server has an IPv6 address, which it should because we're 
in 2016). The machine-id stays constant.

Yes, the machine-id is readable by all users and all processes, so it's not 
like I could stop a rogue process from transmitting it. But I'd rather a KDE 
process didn't do it.
