Good idea, could it also mention devel packages? Like 
"If you want to use packages provided by your distribution, make sure the 
corresponding development packages are installed as well."
A common error of beginners is to forget to install devel packages, and the 
the standard "You're missing libfoo. Go to http://www.libfoo.org to obtain it" 
doesn't help them to track this down.
