make -j4 broken again?

This line here should do the trick:

CTEST_EMPTY_BINARY_DIRECTORY (${CTEST_BINARY_DIRECTORY})

Can you try running a script that basically stops at that point
and see if the directory is empty.   I am pretty sure this should
work.
