[Kde-accessibility] knotify output

I am trying out kttsd right now as a way to notify me of new email messages.  
I want to know if there is a way to control the message that knotify says 
when kttsd is set to read passive popups from kmail.  Right now I am getting 
a lot of extra stuff that includes "<br>..." "less than BR greater than...".  

But at the end of all of that it says what folder the mail has been placed in, 
which is nice.  

So, 

1.  How do I make knotify or kttsd leave out the html formatting information?

Also:  

2.  Can I somehow make it use the mbrola stuff?  I am currently using 
festival, but have mbrola installed.
