Yes, I think this makes sense. Another points is that Kalzium is mostly known 
for being a PTE so stepping away from that might be scary for users :)
Well, we could perhaps make a compromise: We could make all listed tools 
including the PTE a tool (technically a plugin perhaps) and the PTE would be 
the default plugin (that would change anything in terms of look&feel compared 
to today).
But a user can define which tool he wants as the main-tool (technically the 
mainWidget of the app).

Does that make sense? :)
