Wel, the gstreamer package shipped with OpenBSD was not configured 
correctly for default audio = osssink.
I fixed this. Also, one need to have gconf2 support in gstreamer to that 
it can actually be configured ;)

This is all that was needed.
I committed the fix for gstreamer and will commit gcompris update soon 
so that OpenBSD users can have gcompris working out of the box.
