well, I don't know how gcompris plays sounds, but even with "soundwrapper gcompris" and artsd running, it tries to play through ALSA driver directly. Maybe because last bug in libao has removed arts output from it in Mandrake... Bruno, maybe this is why you don't have the problem : you are using an OSS sound driver.
