Thanks for the help.  I'm still apparently missing a few steps though.  
Had to make some symlinks to the libXrender library file to get nxsetup 
to run correctly, but then I get this error :   file 
/usr/NX/home/nx/.ssh/client.id_dsa.key not accessible

and loging in with NoMachine client I get an authentication failed 
message.  I'm fairly sure it's something to do with the keys, since I 
have no idea how to get them set up correctly.  I'm using Centos5.0 BTW.
