I changed code in nxnode (against nxnode svn rev 307) like this

#[ -n "$backingstore" -a "$ENABLE_2_0_0_BACKEND" != "1" ] && B="-bs $backingstore"

and it worked with a 1.5 backend (from sidux.com).

No change needed using another server (ubuntu edgy, 2.1 backend
from dentalonline.com)
