Try setting a layout in the client directly.

That _might_ help, but I guess you have to contact the nxclient-developers 
directly. 

Keyboard is detected wrong on my X11 also, because I have a language-chooser 
applet running and somehow X reports back the last language (french); though 
I have not tested that with 1.5.0, yet.
