unfortunately as far as i know there is nothing out there thats even
rudimentary going into the same direction as "securedesktop" ... there WAS
the
kde kiosk tool -- 13 years ago it was developed and even ported to kde4 ...
i managed to install and run it a long time ago but it didn't work anymore
because most of the config files changed names in the last years and a lot
of settings just did not make it into plasma5 or were renamed

for my life-exam desktop i strongly depend on the kde kiosk system and i
hope it continues to be extended and developed ..
because there is no kiosk tool anymore and i need something simple to lock
down the desktop, especially for the classroom computers, i started (today)
with a very very .. very rudimentary version of a new kiosk tool.....

it's going to be so simple that every "python beginner" is going to
understand how it works and should be able to extend, bugfix, develop it..

currently 5 basic .kiosk config files that contain all the available kiosk
"keys" (restrictions)

like this:
----------------------------
[Action-1]
Type=action restriction
Key=action/kwin_rmb
Name=Disable Window Manager context menu (Alt-F3)
Description=The Window Manager context menu is normally shown when Alt-F3
is pressed or when the menu button on the window frame is pressed
----------------------------

and a very basic UI that autogenerates itself for the most part by reading
those config files..
http://life-edu.eu/images/life-kiosk.png

an apply button that writes all settings into the appropriate plasma
configuration files.. and reloads the desktop.

thats it... and its not working at the moment because as i said.. i just
started ...
but you can follow (or join) the development here:
https://github.com/valueerrorx/life-kiosk

(it hopefully can be of some use)

glhf

thomas

PS: of course this thing can grow and features like "userprofiles" etc.
may follow in the future.. but for now i'd like to keep it short and
simple.. you will be able to lock everything down for the current user only
or globally..
