Next release

Hello,

I think that would be a good goal and should allow Elisa to become a pure
controls v2 application. The only downside I see is that it looks like *ubuntu
18.04 is sticking to Qt 5.9 since both are an LTS release. So this would
require some of our users (including myself :) ) to upgrade their Qt version.
Maybe we could also require KF 5.45, since that includes all the icon changes
including the shiny new Elisa icon. But maybe the release is too recent.

I think it also makes sense to gather some of the feedback we got for the 0.1
release (and before) and define some features we should implement for the next
release(s). What I've seen so far mentioned multiple times:

-Browsing by genre was requested several times, so it is probably worth to
dedicate some effort towards that.
-Browsing files was not mentioned so far for the 0.1 release, but we got that
feedback before. I have a somewhat working solution ready locally, but it
needs to be cleaned up first. Will post patches soon. Elisa needs to get better
at handling files without proper metadata though.
-Better cover art support. I already addressed the "folder.jpg" case. The
embedded cover art support still needs to be added, I got side-tracked for the
embedded cover art after all the discussions that happened during my first try.
I will revive the work in that area soon, so it is mostly in the works.
-Improving (re-)scanning was requested so that Elisa does not rescan the whole
library at startup
-The lack of configuration options was also mentioned. Maybe it's time to
turn the local files configuration tool into a fully-fledged one? Makes only
sense if we actually have stuff that needs to be configured.
-We talked about that in the bug reports, some users don't like the play queue
management, so an option to disable the playlist would be cool.

Did I miss something?

Most of the more critical comments are usually like "Why write yet another
music player, how is this one different?" which is a fair question to ask, so
maybe we have to more clearly state what differentiates Elisa from others.

Best regards,
Alex
