Extra care is required with kwin-x11 and the X11 session file

Hi,

As you probably already know, we split Xorg and Wayland code-bases in
KWin in 6.4. Both kwin_wayland and kwin_x11 are co-installable. But the
final decision what should be installed is left to the distributions. We
would like to bring one case to your attention where you need to be careful.

If a distribution decides to install both kwin_wayland and kwin_x11 by
default, no extra care is required.

However, if a distribution installs only kwin_wayland by default
(reflecting their default desktop environment policy), something needs
to be done about the X11 session desktop file otherwise the user may
find themselves in a situation where they log in to the Xorg session but
there are no decorations, etc. We would like to suggest that such a
distribution puts the X11 session desktop file in a separate package,
which also depends on kwin-x11. If a user wants to run X11 session,
they'll have to install that session package. For example, in the past,
distributions like Arch did something like that but with the wayland
session. Another possible option is to have the user intervene during
the update process, but it depends on the distro and its policies.

Regards,
Vlad
