Management of selected items list

I'm looking for the best way to manage a selection of items to be 
populate as input of most of tools proposed by Digikam (Batch queue, 
create album|panorama|slideshow|..., export, print,...).

My expectation is to easily toggle items inside/outide this selection 
(Color labels? tags?...), with ability to save/reload this list.

Most of you probably have been faced to this => can you please share 
your respective experience on using Digikam this way?

PS : first try with dedicated color label => lock 1 from 10 colors for 
each selection to save is too much!!!
