Why is your digikam database so large?
I use a Mariadb (MySQL) database to manage 172k images in digikam.
When I looked at the digikam directory, the folder occupies 8.94gb on my
SSD, but nearly 3gb of that is binary log files, which can be removed with
SQL RESET MASTER.
You may also retrieve space by using Tools|Maintenance in digikam to clean
up the database.
I would definitely advise against moving the database to an external
device, because it will slow digikam dramatically.
