*The most important thing to remember about digikam is that it doesn’t copy
your files. The album views shows the files in albums, which are the
folders on your hard drive. If you do anything to a file in digikam, your
file will be affected. e.g. Move, copy, rename and delete.*

When I swapped from Lightroom to digikam the biggest problem was redundant
keyword tags kept appearing. Make sure that you change Settings | Metadata
| Advanced settings to only import Lightroom Hierarchical tags. By default
it reads tags from ACDSEE, MediaPro and several other sources. I also
select digikam tags.
Digikam can also read/write .xmp sidecar files. The default is for their
file names to include the file type e.g. P10101.jpg.xmp. Tick the box for
compatibility with other programs if you are importing photos previously
managed with Lightroom.
