Looking for documentation of the Search Tags In Tree option

That's correct, as you're trying to do. In Tree searches for all images
contained in the tag hierarchy.
I tested it here, and it works correctly. Perhaps you didn't start a new
advanced search and other options were set; try again.
In All: All selected tags must be included in the image.
In One Of: One of the selected tags must be included in the image.
