Migration problems

I've migrated to a new machine and am running the snap version of 8.5.0

On startup the old disk location was reported.which I opted to "deal with later"

To do so I added the "new" collection and a rescan commenced and was progressing 
unremarkable until digikam suddenly crashed.

On restating digikam now produces the same disk location dialogue but promptly crashes.

Starting from the command line yields the messages below.

I'd appreciate any advice 
     *  a) on what to do next and 
     *  b) where I might find the digikam logs - I can't see anything specific in /var/log
