It may be your phone connects in mode MTP or PTP, which allows only one
connection at a time. Windows is known to "grab" the device as soon as you
plug in the USB, so there's no connection available for Digikam.

But as you can connect with File Explorer, you can use that to transfer your
files to your hard disk, Digikam's albums are directories on your disk. You
may have to tell Digikam to refresh a new directory, or one where you have
added images.
