Thank you for your reply and suggestion. I had forgotten all about PhotoSync though I have the app. I'll give that a try. Now to dust off the cobwebs of how to use PhotoSync.

At least I didn’t find a way to do this.
Therefore I’m using the app PhotoSync for that purpose.

Does DigiKam have any ability to directly read photos taken/saved to the Apple Photo App rather than me having to export them manually into DigiKam?
