Tethered shooting

Hello,
A question for advice and suggestion for tethered shooting. In my
current case to digitize analog photos with a camera and control the
camera from the computer.
Preferable I use Linux (Linux Mint standard and Linux Mint Debian
Edition). I use digiKam AppImage.
I am exploring the Entangle software, which should do the job, but maybe
better options exist.
I have also tested that it is possible to take a photo from digiKam, my
camera is supported by gPhoto. However, as far as I can figure out (eg
digiKam manual and browsing settings), I can only take a photo and
download it. No camera settings (view nor set), no live view etc. I
understand gPhoto itself has some command line settings, but I believe
that is when I have gPhoto installed stand alone and not as part of the
digiKam AppImage.
Is there anything I can do in digiKam more than "shoot" and download the
photo?
Any other suggestion than Entangle software?
I really prefer to stick to Linux, but if there is a major reason to
look into Windows 10, I can consider it.
Thanks,
Henrik Hemrin
