Work around is to use terminal command: 
/Applications/digiKam.org/digikam.app/Contents/MacOS/digikam


Is this expected to be fixed in the next DK release?



By the way: Are there any plans to release minor bugfix updates that fix 
issues like these? Like 8.4.1 8.4.2 and so on so that users do not have 
to wait until DK 8.5 is released?

Of course they might use nightly build or whatever, but this is not 
really the same as a bugfix release as using some development snapshot 
will likely not be as stable as using the current release + bugfixes. 
Also, there might be deviations between the program and the documentation.
