Your use of "light table" makes me think of darktable, which has a similar 
star rating system. Shortcuts between darktable and digikam are close, but not 
the same: I think digikam needs "ctrl+shift+&" for one star, where darktable 
needs just "ctrl+&" (for a French keyboard layout, where the numerals require 
use of the shift key!)
