Problem with special (accented) charcacters

Had this problem maybe 2 years ago, on Linux Mint 21.1 / Cinnamon and
Digikam (don't remember which version), but this was also the case in a
couple of other KDE-based applications. Guess it was some underlying
codepage/locale problem (KDE-modules on en_EN locale), setting up the
kdecontrol package didn't solve anything because the locale-module was
not present.
Upgrading to Linux Mint 21.2 and Digikam 8.0 got rid of this.
Maik/Gilles; how much KDE-dependent stuff is still running behind Digikam?
Best regards,
