Problem with special (accented) charcacters

Hi all, I've searched the mailing list about this without success, so
here's my question.

I just can't use accented characters in digikam, for example, if I try to
add this tag:

"Acción" or "Álvaro"
I'll get this:
"Accion" or "Alvaro"

Same problem with searches, titles, captions or any other field within the
program.

I'm using Mint 21.3, and I've tried changing the program language to
spanish, the whole OS to spanish, and tried all spanish keyboard layouts
without success. Accented characters works just fine in any other program,
I'm just having problems with Digikam.

I'm using 8.30, but tried also 8.20 and 8.40 wihtout success. I have also
tried the Windows version (8.30) which works just fine, the only problem
seems to be the Linux version.

I'm sure it must be a silly issue, but for the life of me, I'm not able to
find the solution. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
