Thumbnail suddenly turned green

Are your photos on an external drive? And did you create the collection as 
such?

Or did you move the images/change a directory name outside digikam?

Those weird thumbnails mean there's no thumbnail in the cache, and the 
underlying image cannot be found. It does not mean those images have 
disappeared
