[digiKam-users] When to rebuild the thumbnails

I have 50,000+ images in my main db. 

I do regularly add new photos and delete almost duplicates or not
sharp enough or not in focus or....

I also do regular data maintenance after large operations but I have
not rebuild the thumbnails. The last time, I did that was around
40,000  images and it took slightly more than 24 hours.

* At what point do I bite the bullet and rebuild the thumbnails?
* What are the benefits of rebuilding the thumbnails?
